A closeup look at the business end of a railroad undercutting and ballast cleaning machine.  This particular unit is a Canadian Pacific owned undercutter that the Florida East Coast Railway was leasing to work on its main line in Boca Raton, FL.  Taken February 19, 2007

NR-4 pausing in Willimantic, Conn.

On January 6, 2008 the Providence & Worcester Railroad ran the newest job - symbol NR-4 - between Plainfield and Willimantic, CT. The train would handle customers on the Willimantic Branch, along with the interchagne traffic with the New England Central Railroad. Here NR-4 pauses in Willimantic yard so the crew can swap ends for the return trip back to Plainfield.
